A local news station was airing a live broadcast when someone was shot and killed at Friday’s “March Against Police Brutality” in Detroit.
The police are not the ones who fired the shot.
“Oh sh-t,” the anchor said right after the shots were heard on camera.

The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. Their name has not yet been released to the public.
“A DPD spokesperson days a grey Dodge Durango pulled up and fired into the crowd, striking a 19-year-old man. The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital,” local station WXYZ reports. “At least 9 people have been taken into custody. However, 7 Action News crews are seeing more people being led away in restraints.”
Three Detroit Police officers have also been injured and multiple DPD vehicles have been damaged.
“There have been three Detroit police officers injured tonight which began with one being hit by a thrown rock during the early part of the protest against police brutality,” Fox 2 reports. “Michigan State Police are providing air support with its helicopter as officers are trying to break up lingering members of the crowd.”
Another officer was on a bike and narrowly avoided being hit by a car that was deliberately trying to run him down, according to a statement from Detroit Police Chief James Craig. The driver has been arrested after a vehicle pursuit on the freeway.
“I will not stand by and let a small minority of criminals come in here, attack our officers and make our community unsafe,” Chief Craig told reporters. “Just know that we are not going to tolerate it.”
Chief Craig said that many of the criminals are from outside the city.
“The vast majority, I want to say seven out of nine, are from outside of the city of Detroit,” Craig said. “If you really believe in Black Lives Matter, we are still battling COVID. I am a COVID survivor. African-Americans are two or three more times likely to get COVID or die from COVID. Do us a favor, if you want to protest, why don’t you protest in your hometown.”
Police have declared the “protest” to be an unlawful assembly shortly after midnight and began using tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.

“Detroit Fox newsfeed just cut off after a person apparently got shot while live on air, this is terrifying. Field reporter screamed “Oh SH-T” after hearing what sounded like shots,” Twitter user Jessica Petrowitsch wrote.
